FCS Awarded Gold Level Anne Dallas Dudley Award for Second Year
Lebanon, TN –Friendship Christian School received the Gold Level Anne Dallas Dudley voter registration award from Tennessee Secretary of State, Tre Hargett on May 3rd. This is the second consecutive year that FCS has achieved the Gold Award.
The Secretary of State initiated the Anne Dallas Dudley Award in 2022 to recognize Tennessee High Schools that reach a threshold of registering to vote at least 85% of their eligible students each year. To attain the Gold Level award schools must register 100% of their eligible students. In 2023, 14 High Schools in Tennessee received the Gold Award. FCS is one of four that has met the 100% goal for two consecutive years.
The award was conceived to honor renowned suffragist Anne Dallas Dudley who helped lead the successful effort to get the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution ratified nationwide and in her home state, Tennessee. On Aug. 18, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th and final state needed to pass the amendment giving women the right to vote.
“We were excited to join Secretary Hargett, Senator Mark Pody, Representative Clark Boyd, Principal Veronica Bender and Mr. Chris Link to honor FCS’s voter registration achievement. The Wilson County Election Commission encourages students to register to vote and to become lifelong involved citizens,” said Tammy Smith, Wilson County Administrator of Elections.
The Wilson County Election Commission is currently preparing for three elections in 2024 beginning with the Republican and Democratic Presidential Preference Primary on March 5th, 2024. There will also be a County General and State Republican and Democratic election on August 1, 2024. The State Republican and Democratic General Election will be on November 5, 2024 along with the City of Lebanon, City of Mt. Juliet and Watertown municipal elections.
