(PUBLIC CHAPTER NO. 898, 1996 AMENDING T.C.A. § 40-29-105) Type of Crime That Forfeits Right to Vote
- All felonies
Conditions Under Which Person May Be Eligible for Restoration of Voting Rights
- Receipt of a pardon that restores full rights of citizenship; or
- Expiration of the maximum sentence imposed by the court for the crime; and
- Obtaining a judgment from circuit court, in either the county where person resides or in the county where person was convicted, that restores full rights of citizenship upon the person.
Procedure for Restoring Voting Rights
- Submit to the county election commission in the county in which the person resides a certified copy of the order restoring the person's rights of citizenship;
- County administrator of elctions shall verify with the Coordinator of Elections that the order was issued; and
- Upon verification, the person may be registered to vote.
Exceptions - Persons Ineligible to Be Registered to Vote in Tennessee
- Persons convicted of murder, rape, treason, or voter fraud
